Social Security Checks: Direct Deposit Only

Paper checks from the Social Security Department will soon become a thing of the past. In addition to being a more convenient way to get paid, the new mandate will save the government about $120 million a year. Currently, several million dollars are wasted due to theft or loss. By March of 2013, paper checks will no longer be mailed; there will be some exceptions for recipients over the age of 90 or others who are not able to use the direct deposit system.
