Disability Medical Conditions: Inflammatory Breast Cancer
Inflammatory Breast Cancer is a rare form of breast cancer in which lymph vessels in the skin are blocked by cancer cells. The cancer can cause noticeable redness or pain in the breast. The American Cancer Society says that because of the aggressive nature of the cancer, it must be treated as soon as it is diagnosed. The National Cancer Institute has found that IBC accounts for 1 in every 5 breast cancer cases; it accounts for at least 1 percent of cancers diagnosed in the United States. IBC is mostly diagnosed in younger women and is seen more in African American women. Older men have also been diagnosed with IBC.
The disease is listed as one of the medical conditions in the Compassionate Allowances Program. The program expedites the application process so that individuals with severe medical conditions can apply for disability benefits quickly.
Under the Compassionate Allowances program, those suffering from certain medical conditions and impairments will have their application processed quickly through the “fast track” program which helps administrators rapidly identify and process medical conditions on the program’s list of medical impairments.
